Sure, my Dad believes he's God (or at least he always did.) You know, the "special licenses" and all that amusing stuff.

But seriously, I wonder if I would be walking today were it not for him. No kidding. On July 3rd 1992 I was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS), which presents as an ascending paralysis beginning in the feet and progressing up the body. It is a rare syndrome, affecting 1 in 50,000 people and is very difficult to diagnose.

To keep this short, my father diagnosed my abnormal "slap-gait" as I was walking across our front lawn that eventful day and calmly convinced me to pack my things so we could go to the hospital for testing. What is very noteworthy is the fact that GBS is very time sensitive, and that too often it is either mis-diagnosed and/or not diagnosed in time to avoid some degree of permanent paralysis.

Fortunately for me, God was with me that day to whisk me to the hospital in time to avoid "the wheelchair" option and I still enjoy hiking to this day.

Gratefully yours,
